Comprehensive Eye Examinations at Arthur Hayes Eyecare, Crowborough
At Arthur Hayes Eyecare in Crowborough, we use the latest technology to provide the most thorough and complete eye examination possible. We understand that no two patients are identical, and the examination is tailored to meet your needs.
The eye examination appointment is expected to last approximately 30 minutes. Below is an overview of what you can anticipate.
Firstly, your eyes will be measured using an auto-refractor, a noninvasive procedure that allows us to see the shape of the cornea. This will be followed by a visual field measurement (where appropriate) to provide a definitive reading of the sensitivity of your peripheral vision.
We will carefully review your history and symptoms to address any concerns or issues you may have and understand any specific vision needs you may have. If you wear glasses, we will measure their strength and assess your vision.
The binocular vision assessment of your visual system is evaluated, including convergence testing and pupil assessment where necessary.
Intraocular pressures will be taken (if over 30 years old or have a family history of glaucoma), and this will be followed by a thorough check of the front and back of the eyes. This includes fundus photographs of the retina where appropriate and a detailed microscopic view of the front and back of the eye. With our new equipment, the Topcon Maestro OCT, we can map every layer in the retina to see it in minute detail. Optometrists study this information and act as a monitoring tool for any changes to the retina in the following years.
After all these health checks have been performed, the refraction is done to determine your distance vision and reading vision prescriptions. The eyes are balanced, and the new prescription is verified. At the end of the consultation, we will explain the results to you along with a straightforward course of action. If new spectacles are required, our highly experienced dispensers will be ready to discuss and guide you through choosing a new frame with the best spectacle lenses for your particular prescription.
A private eye examination is for anyone aged 1 to 100+. At Arthur Hayes Eyecare, we recommend an annual or two-year examination, depending on your visual status.
